The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is an annual trade show held in Las Vegas, and is a place for companies to showcase their latest and greatest technology inventions. Running for 50 years, the show brings in over 170,000 people from 160 countries.
Despite showcasing a huge variety of tech, sex toys weren't always accepted at CES. Sex toy company OhMiBod had to be a bit strategic to get into the show the first time, and most people didn't even realise there were sex toys at the show! Last year, sex toy company Lora DiCarlo won an innovation award, however this was quickly revoked with CES stating the reason was due to the product being "immoral, obscene, indecent, profane".
After a public complaint by the company, the award was reinstated, and CES' policies were updated to allow sex tech exhibitors to feature in the health and wellness group! At this year's show, 10 companies centred on sexual wellness will be attending, including world-famous brand Satisfyer.
So far, the reaction from attendees has been mostly curiosity, as many people don't realise the tech that goes into a sex toy. We can only hope that the positive reception and acceptance will lead to more people being open about the world of sex toys.
